Gift Card Scam

It started with an email apparently from a supervisor to a new employee

• The sender name was the name of the supervisor

• The email address is clearly not the supervisor's email address

• However, email apps often just display the sender name (or part thereof) rather than the full email address, especially on phones

• The organisation does not use Whatsapp but the scam target does

• There is no way of knowing whether this was a targeted scam or just an unlucky scattergun hit

• The content of the first email is relatively innocuous
