Download Youtube Videos

  • If not already installed, download and install the free VLC Media Player

  • https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

  • Browse to Youtube

  • https://www.youtube.com/

  • Find the video you wish to download

  • (say) The Best Skills in Hockey

  • Copy the URL for the video from the address bar

  • (say) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_qTxNIQy7I

  • Open VLC Media Player

  • From the Media Menu at the top left of screen

  • Choose Open Network Stream

  • Paste the URL you have copied and click the Play button

  • If VLC Media Player does not play the correct video, close VLC and re-open

  • While the video is playing, choose Tools, Codec Information from the menu bar at top of screen

  • A dialogue window will open

  • Copy the Location as per the address in the Location field at the bottom of the dialogue window

  • Open a new web browser window

  • Paste the address in the address bar

  • The video will start playing

  • Click on the vertical 3 dots icon at the bottom right of the video

  • Choose download

  • Save the video file to the appropriate folder on your computer

  • The format will be MP4 which should play on most televisions and computers

  • If not, the video can be converted to another format, but that's another story.....
